Coventry's electrical landscape
Coventry's housing stock is dominated by post-war local authority and ex-LA properties (Tile Hill, Canley, Allesley Park, Wood End) alongside older terraces and semis around Earlsdon and Cheylesmore, with newer developments at Cannon Park, Westwood Heath, and Stoneleigh village.
1950sā60s ex-LA properties
Mostly fitted with original Wylex pull-out fuse boards (or replacement MK Standard units from the 80s-90s), original twin-and-earth wiring that's often serviceable but at the end of its design life, and lighting circuits that pre-date current zonal regulations. Common jobs: consumer unit upgrades, partial rewires, additional sockets, kitchen renovations.
Earlsdon / Cheylesmore terraces
Older housing, often part-rewired in the 1980s. Common challenges: layered wiring across multiple eras, old PVC-sheathed cable losing colour-coding integrity, original BS 3036 fuses. Full or partial rewires are common; EICRs essential before purchase.
New-builds (Cannon Park, Westwood Heath)
Standard developer-spec electrical installs. Most common upgrades: EV chargers, additional sockets in home offices, smart lighting retrofits, outdoor lighting/garden room circuits.
University of Warwick area
Westwood Heath, Canley, and Tile Hill have substantial student let and HMO concentrations supporting the University of Warwick. We do regular landlord EICRs across this area ā fast turnaround on inspections, fixed-price remedial quotes, and we can coordinate access with letting agents directly.
